电影音乐原本是属於影像的，当它们不经意的走出了漆黑的戏院，悄悄的走进了影迷的记忆里，当你感受到某种情绪的当下，那些音乐刹那间变成了你的心情主题曲，你会惊觉电影音乐不再只是附著於影像的旋律，它们变成了生活中的情感，这样令人印象深刻的电影音乐并不多见，义大利电影音乐巨擘颜尼欧莫利克奈Ennio Morricone的影音作品就是这样别致的东西。当【新天堂乐园】、【教会】、【四海兄弟】这些电影的主题音乐响起的时候，不知有多少人会在乐声之中，回想起人生岁月中的往事，不知又有多少人被乐曲感动到潸然泪下。
1928年10月11号出生於罗马的颜尼欧莫利克奈，从小就对音乐有著无比的天份，6岁时就接触了作曲，12岁那一年，他只花了半年的时间，就把罗马圣塔西西莉亚音乐学校长达4年的音乐课程唸完，学会了小号与和声的课程，他利用多餘的课程时间，拜义大利音乐家Goffredo Petrassi、Bruno Nicolai等人为师，深入研习作曲的技巧，他在离校时，总计拿到了作曲、管弦乐编曲、指挥、小号等4个学位。有一次，颜尼欧莫利克奈无意间听到了电影音乐名匠艾佛瑞德纽曼Alfred Newman在1953年为电影【The Robe】所创作的音乐，当下激起了他投身电影音乐创作的兴趣，在协助几部电影音乐的管弦乐编曲的工作后，颜尼欧莫利克奈在1961年以【Il Federale】这部电影开始了他的影音里程。
1964年起，颜尼欧莫利克奈以豪迈、漂泊的义大利西部鏢客电影三部曲-【荒野大鏢客】、【黄昏双鏢客】、【黄昏三鏢客】在国际影坛扬起漫天风沙，他与拍摄此一系列影片的导演塞吉奥李昂尼就此成为义大利西部电影/音乐的传奇，影响力之深，就连鬼才导演昆汀塔伦提诺都说这些音乐真是够屌，还在他所执导的【追杀比尔】电影中借用莫利克奈的音乐来塑造他电影中的独特气味。颜尼欧莫利克奈与李昂尼这对为鏢客电影留下深刻的影音注记的拍档随后也合作了【狂沙十万里】以及美国帮派史诗片【四海兄弟】。
颜尼欧莫利克奈创作电影音乐乐曲的配器选择十分独特且多样，从西部片中常用的铁鉆、铃鐺、长笛、提琴到后来的钢琴、电子合成器与大编制的管弦乐团，应有尽有，乐曲中所採撷的类型音乐元素，则有墨西哥民谣、古典乐、催眠曲、义大利歌剧、咏嘆调、流行音乐、浪漫派乐风、南美土著音乐、实验音乐。在进入1980年代之后，颜尼欧莫利克奈的音乐创作日趋成熟，经常在深具亲和力的旋律之中装载著浓浓的情感，在鲜明的乐声之中让各种乐器带出影像中独特的情绪，或是让人声合唱去昇华影片的性灵，像是在【四海兄弟】一片中的长笛乐声，在【教会】一片中的吹管乐器与人声大合唱，或是【新天堂乐园】里的悠悠琴音，都再再大师展现在乐器与人声配置上的选择与巧思。
【新天堂乐园】的合作经验，让颜尼欧莫利克奈与该片导演朱赛贝扥纳多雷成了新一代的导演／音乐家拍档组合，双方陆续合作了【海上钢琴师】、【真爱伴我行】，颜尼欧莫利克奈的音乐也深获好莱坞名导的青睞，像是华伦比提执导的【豪情四海】、【爱你想你恋你】，布莱恩狄帕玛执导的【越战创伤】、【火星任务】，都把音乐创作交给颜尼欧莫利克奈。
电影音乐中洋溢著流行音乐的流畅曲式与抒情风格，也让颜尼欧莫利克奈的作品自1990年代以来经常被流行音乐创作者谱写上歌词而成为流行、摇滚、跨界美声艺人争相演唱的歌曲，从美声歌后莎拉布莱曼，百老匯女伶伊莲佩姬Elaine Paige，流行女歌手凯蒂莲K.D. Lang，流行天后席琳狄翁到新世代美声歌手乔许Josh Groban、罗素华生Russell Watson都曾唱过根据大师的音乐再填上歌词的流行歌曲。就连金属制品乐团Metallica有段期间都以【黄昏三鏢客】的主题音乐〈The Ecstasy Of Gold〉作为演唱会的开场序曲。
